Fracking bloody LiveJournal anyway

I've got the setting turned on on LJ to email me when someone posts a comment to one of my posts or posts a reply to one of my comments. It usually works okay; I get about 90% of the notifications, most of the time, and things go pretty well. Occasionally a notification never makes it to my email, when the Intertubes get clogged or something.

Over the last 48 hours, I have received between three and five copies of every notification email for posts going back several weeks.

Now, just to give you an idea of what that means, my post about tattoos, porn, and respect for women has received, at the time of this writing, 119 comments (including mine). I've received at least three emailed copies of every one of those comments in the last two days--as well as multiple copies of every post made in the last week or two, including my post from my iPhone this morning.

Is it just me? Have I done something to offend the God of IMAP? Do I need to dance widdershins naked around a router, Ethernet cables braided through my hair, to appease the offended deities? Should I meditate at a temple dedicated to BIND, hoping to learn through introspection of the folly of my ways? Or is this a more general calamity, like a digital plague of locusts, signaling the Tribulation and the End Times?

first, take a live chicken...

I haven't gotten multiple emails, but I've had notification emails be very late for the past few days. Maybe you're getting all the on-time-ness.

Didn't his car try to explode again this morning? or more accurately.....didn't someone else try to explode his car this morning?

Though I seriously would watch tacit dancing nekkid, widderswhins or otherwise.

Now i am almost leery to post this reply lest I irritate the LJ gods as well and he get 28 copies of this reply.

Yeah, 'cause I can't be the only one who'd pay to see that...

Also, seeing this would really improve my week.

Oh, buggeration.

And in my case, I *haven't* been getting notifications at a time when I could really use them. Gah.

Something's definitely going on -- LJ just moved their servers, might have something to do with that? Hope it behaves itself soon, e-mail notifications are really handy for me, WHEN THEY WORK.

*I* haven't had any problems, but yours is the third or fourth rant on the topic I've seen in the last couple days.

Also - mama_hogswatch has it right about needing to post it to youtube. ~grin~

It's not you. Notifications have been fucked up since the server move. They announced it could cause problems with the notifications that might last for a little while until they finished resynchronizing everything.

I am not *knock wood* currently having this problem but I have ihad it in the past. I would say that a small sacrifice of a thumb drive is in order.

Our Lady Google suggests a lot of people not receiving notifications, but I'm not seeing much on duplicates.

Really now, what sort of Tech Support ritual doesn't involve The Gracious Oracle?

And seconded (third? fourth?) on you posting that to YouTube :0

I've also been getting notifications about a day late.

I've also been posting comments on other people's LJs to spam them with multiple e-mails and increase the server load. Your rituals cannot stop me.

If it doesn't involve snmp and/or sendmail, you aren't suffering enough ;)

oiy. I had a nightmare scenario once where I commented in someone else's journal I got every single comment made to his journal entry & it was a *very* remarked upon journal entry... like 200 comments

I love this mental picture. :D

I wonder if this had to do with the move they just did, and now that things are new and "better" the back log is catching up, unfortunately to your inbox's demise....
