Home sweet home!

This is where I've been spending the vast majority of my time these days.

I've been here, in some cases, until midnight, just to get up the next morning and come here again. Yes, that's why I haven't been around much lately.

Yes, I use all of them. Hush.

I'm here right now. The laptop is the one I'm using to type this, in case, y'know, you wanted to know.

Steve Jobs approves ;)

What impresses me is that all four are discrete systems, with at least two OSes between them, and not a KVM switch in sight.

Well, almost. There's no Windows box; I have two monitors connected to a dual-head card in my Mac Pro; the large flatscreen and the black monitor to its right are both connected to the same computer, and Windows is running in a VM. The extra mouse is for when the batteries die in the wireless mouse, which happens more often than you'd think.

Oh, gods. I had a wireless mouse/keyboard combo. Abandoned the mouse in favour of a wired one in... What, two days? Of course it didn't help that the *next* wireless mouse I got -- a Logitech G7 (if memory serves) had a faulty charger, and wouldn't charge the batteries. Incidentally, if you decide to switch your wireless, go with a gaming setup. A base station that doubles as a charger for the Li-ion mouse battery and comes with an extra battery for rapid swapping! What a concept!

(I totally guessed on whether the middle two were standalones or not based on the number of mice, though. Guilty.)

Looks like you could use this

I was also going to point that out - I don't know how I ever survived without it.

is this for work?

Yep! That's my office.

You know.. there is such a thing called a "Virtual Machine".

Re: Solution
Yep. I'm actually running one. The Windows you see on the black flat-screen monitor is running on a VM under Mac OS X; that and the large monitor to its left are both connected to the same computer with a dual-head graphics card.

The machine to its right is used mainly for burning and duplicating CDs, which is why it's a physical machine on my desk rather than a VM or a remote machine.

I like how the Windows screen is BLACK LIKE EVIL.

theres got to be more to this.. don't you print and scan stuff? (or is that set up in another room..)
May. 30th, 2009 09:09 pm (UTC)
Heh, right oyu are. The printers are all up front, and there's a scanner out of sight under the desk (though it's only used for low-res for-position-only scanning; scans for print are shipped out to a service bureau to be done on a drum scanner).
